Technology on Country:

Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

Delivering high quality telecommunications in remote areas is extremely challenging, primarily due to the long distances and low-population densities.  Mobile phone, wireless and satellite technology are the most common forms of communication technology in remote areas.

Telecommunications services are lifelines for our remote communities, often playing an integral role in emergency situations and to support provision of essential services.

ICT is also becoming more crucial in supporting our people to thrive on country. High quality ICT supports opportunities for sustainable livelihoods, jobs and business as our people take advantage of the access to global markets and global information systems and tools that improved Internet access provides.

CfAT and its subsidiaries maintain expertise in remote communications, and have developed and delivered a number of projects to support remote communities in benefitting from rapid advances in ICT.
