Overview
The RIIMPO317E - Conduct Roller Operations course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely and efficiently operate a roller for compaction in civil construction and related industries. This nationally accredited training focuses on ensuring participants understand and manage the equipment, perform essential safety practices, and comply with industry regulations.
Rollers play a crucial role in compacting materials through vibration, pressure, and other techniques. The training encompasses hands-on and theoretical components to ensure participants can confidently operate rollers on various worksites.
Content
Planning and Preparation
Understanding operational requirements for roller use.
Identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.
Conducting site risk assessments and soil evaluations.
Pre-Operational Checks
Inspecting rollers for safe operation.
Reporting and addressing mechanical faults.
Reviewing fluid levels, tyres, and compaction systems.
Roller Operation
Safely starting and maneuvering the roller.
Compacting soil, gravel, or asphalt using proper techniques.
Managing operational adjustments based on material and conditions.
Relocation of Roller
Safely relocating the roller within or between worksites.
Loading and unloading the roller from transport vehicles.
Maintenance and Housekeeping
Performing routine maintenance, such as lubrication and filter checks.
Cleaning the roller and associated tools after use.
Safety and Communication
Maintaining communication with site personnel and supervisors.
Adhering to safety signage and regulations.
Responding to emergency situations effectively.
Duration
3 days (approx. 7 Hours each day)

To participate in the course when you arrive, you must:
Provide Photo ID
Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number
visit www.usi.gov.au to obtain a USI
Wear required PPE detailed below
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Enclosed steel-cap or other suitable work boots
Suitable work shorts or pants
Hi-vis shirt or vest
* Your participation in the course may be cancelled or postponed if PPE requirements are not met.
Course Completion
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Participants will be able to:
Safely operate a roller in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Conduct pre-start checks and routine maintenance.
Handle compaction tasks effectively on various materials.
Relocate and transport the roller safely.
Maintain accurate operational records and reports.
Expiration
Certification does not have a specific expiry; however, employers may require periodic refreshers to ensure ongoing compliance with workplace safety standards.
