The RIIMPO320F – Conduct Civil Construction Excavator Operations course is tailored for individuals seeking to gain the skills and knowledge needed to safely and effectively operate an excavator in civil construction environments. This nationally recognized training focuses on preparing participants to perform a range of tasks such as lifting, carrying, and placing materials, as well as conducting pre-operational checks and equipment maintenance. The program combines theory with practical training, providing participants with hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced trainers.

Introduction to Excavator Operations
Overview of excavator functions and applications in civil construction.
Identification of equipment components and operational principles.
Awareness of workplace hazards and risk management strategies.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Standards
Understanding relevant regulations, standards, and safety procedures.
Safe operation practices, including personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
Emergency protocols and hazard reporting processes.
Pre-Operational Checks and Maintenance
Inspecting excavator equipment to ensure operational safety.
Identifying and reporting faults or malfunctions.
Importance of scheduled maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
Excavator Operation Techniques
Planning and preparing for various excavator tasks.
Executing operations, including digging, lifting, and material placement.
Operating on different terrains and adjusting techniques for specific worksite conditions.
Load Handling and Attachments
Techniques for lifting, carrying, and placing materials safely.

Entry Requirements
To participate in the course when you arrive, you must:
Provide Photo ID
Provide your Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number
visit www.usi.gov.au to obtain a USI
Wear required PPE detailed below
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Enclosed steel-cap or other suitable work boots
Suitable work shorts or pants
Hi-vis shirt or vest
* Your participation in the course may be cancelled or postponed if PPE requirements are not met.
Course Completion
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Participants will be able to:
Safely operate a backhoe or loader in compliance with WHS regulations.
Perform pre-operational checks and identify potential mechanical issues.
Lift, carry, and position materials accurately and safely.
Use and maintain attachments for various tasks.
Conduct routine maintenance and safely shut down equipment.
Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards during operations.
Expiration
Certification does not have a specific expiry; however, employers may require periodic refreshers to ensure ongoing compliance with workplace safety standards.
