Overview - RIIWHS202E

The RIIWHS202E - Enter and Work in Confined Spaces course is designed to provide participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to safely enter, work, and exit confined spaces. This nationally accredited training ensures that individuals understand the hazards associated with confined spaces and how to apply appropriate safety measures to protect themselves and others.

Throughout the course, participants will learn to identify risks, select and use the correct safety equipment, and follow safe work procedures. This training is essential for workers in industries where entering confined spaces is a part of their duties, such as construction, mining, utilities, and maintenance.

Overview - MSMPER202

The MSMPER202 - Observe Permit Work course is designed to provide participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to observe and monitor permit-to-work systems in various industries. This nationally accredited training ensures that individuals understand the importance of adhering to permit work systems, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures when performing work activities in hazardous environments.

Throughout the course, participants will learn to follow permit requirements, identify risks, and apply control measures to ensure a safe working environment for all involved. This training is critical for workers in industries such as construction, manufacturing, mining, and utilities, where specific permits are required to ensure the safe execution of high-risk tasks.

Introduction to Permit-to-Work Systems

  • Understand the purpose and structure of a permit-to-work (PTW) system.

  • Identify the different types of permits used in high-risk environments (e.g., hot work, confined space entry, electrical isolation).

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in the permit work system, including permit issuers, observers, and recipients.

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

  • Identify common hazards associated with high-risk work activities covered by permit systems.

  • Conduct hazard assessments to evaluate potential risks before work commences.

  • Implement risk control measures as outlined in the permit-to-work procedure (e.g., isolation of energy sources, use of PPE).

Understanding and Following Permit Requirements

  • Learn the steps involved in the permit-to-work process, including permit approval, monitoring, and completion.

  • Ensure that work activities are carried out in accordance with permit conditions, including safe work procedures.

  • Verify that all control measures are in place before starting work, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Monitoring Work Activities and Compliance

  • Observe work activities to ensure they align with permit requirements.

  • Monitor compliance with safety measures, including PPE usage, risk control, and isolation procedures.

  • Communicate any issues or non-compliance to supervisors or the permit issuer.

Communication and Reporting Procedures

  • Maintain clear communication with all personnel involved in permit-to-work activities, ensuring all parties are informed of hazards and safety procedures.

  • Report any unsafe practices, risks, or changes in conditions to the relevant personnel.

  • Complete necessary documentation, including permit logs and compliance checklists.

Emergency Response and Incident Reporting

  • Understand the emergency procedures related to permit work activities.

  • Respond appropriately to incidents or accidents that occur during permit-based work.

  • Report incidents and near misses in accordance with workplace safety protocols and procedures.

Closing Out the Permit-to-Work Process

  • Ensure that all work activities are completed safely and according to the permit conditions.

  • Assist in the closing out of permits once the work is finished, verifying that all safety measures are removed or secured.

  • Review and confirm that any necessary follow-up actions are completed before work is considered fully closed.
